The word Trikatu is derived from a Sanskrit word where “Tri” means three and “Katu” means herbs that are hot and pungent. Trikatu is a traditional herbal formulation containing three bitter herbs mixed together in equal quantities. Dried fruits of Piper nigrum (Kali Mirch), Piper longum (Pippali), and dried Zingiber officinale (Saunth) are used to prepare this Churna. Trikatu Churna plays an essential role in balancing aggravated Kapha in the respiratory and digestive tract. It also stimulates the stomach to produce digestive enzymes to promote the digestion of food and increase appetite.
It shows the best results when taken with lukewarm water and honey. One important precaution with Trikatu Churna is that it may worsen gastritis and may cause a burning sensation when taken in higher doses due to its hot potency[2]

1. Cough
A cough is quite a common ailment and is commonly known as Kapha disorder in Ayurveda. It is generally caused by the accumulation of mucus in the respiratory tract. Trikatu Churna is an effective herb in managing cough and cold. It controls cough, releases mucus, and clears air passages, thus allowing the patient to breathe freely. This is due to its Kapha balancing property.

2. Indigestion
According to Ayurveda, indigestion is termed Agnimandya and is due to an imbalance of Pitta dosha. Whenever the consumed food is left undigested due to Mand Agni (low digestive fire), it forms Ama (toxic remains in the body due to improper digestion) leading to indigestion. Trikatu Churna is considered one of the most effective Ayurvedic Churna to manage indigestion.
